I wanted to make a pinwheel quilt but I hate those measurement - cut 48 - 3 7/8" squares (I hate 7/8ths). For some reason measurements like that remind me of my dear dad being up the shed with him and him talking about drill bits. I digress, my very knowledgeable friend Lorraine introduced me to this amazing ruler. You just cut a strip of fabric then lay the contrasting materials right sides facing and then cut your triangles by flipping the ruler. Then sew them together.
It is super fast and very easy.

I had my pinwheels cut out and put together, quilted and binding sewn on in no time .
The ruler is also very economical and I got an extra pinwheel per strip, so I had a pinwheel in each colour left over, so I was able to piece the back.
I now have a star quilt I want to make so I can use the ruler to make that.
I'm fairly sure Lorraine does a class on how to use these rulers if you are interested.

Love this quilt Leanne!!! The ruler sounds quite brilliant too. (Cutting is one of the hardest bits in the whole quilt process I think. So glad I'm not alone in thinking that. Loved your drill bit/7/8ths association too. They so fit!) Love the header photo too. (Boy am I gushy today! Just love everything about this post!) Waitpinga Beach?
Gotta get myself one of those nifty rulers!
Just gorgeous, there's something about pinwheels, they just never date or become boring.
I love pinwheels, I love your quilt...so cute!

Love your ruler. And love your quilt. I have been wanting to make one. Of to get the ruler tomorrow. Thanks
Lovely quilt Leanne. I hate those daft measurements too, in the end you only cut those pesky points off. Like the idea of using the spares for the back and your words of wisdom on your label - so true. Great new header photo.

I too hate those 7/8" cuts and have always made sure I have no distractions when cutting and then usually end up with a mistake - that ruler is great and I just LOVE the quilt, Beautiful!.
Wow Leanne I love your new header what a stunning photo...
and your pinwheel quilt is gorgeous I too must go and get one of those rulers....
I am in love with pinwheels..but have avoided them because of the 7/8ths thing....when you are this old all the marks on the ruler look the same......so hard to get it right...and look at that Kris....gush gush gush...LOL.....so I will just say "ditto" to her comment! Will be ordering one of those rulers....!
I love the quilt. The label is outstanding. Great job on it.
lovely quilt Leanne, you make it sound easy! I love your header shot too, do you have a wide angle lens? How close do you live to the beach?
