Surfing Safari

Boomer Weekend

Last weekend saw the family relaxing at Boomer Beach. I have a friend who has a wonderful beach house there and we are lucky enough to be able to use it. Sean loves these weekends as he doesn't have to go far to find surf. Boomer is near Port Elliot which is about an 1hours drive for us.

Boomer Weekend

These photos were taken early morning at Petrel Cove and Waitpinga as Sean drove like a mad thing looking for a good wave. I am invited on these expeditions as I can take photos.

Boomer Weekend

On Saturday Lucas, Nick and Dave arrived.
They had great fun in the waves at Boomer.

Boomer Weekend

This is the view from the Beach house it is wonderful to go to sleep and wake up to the crashing sounds of the waves.
It is also nice to sit and stitch with this lovely view to look up at.

Another early morning drive but with no Sean this time he had headed in the other direction to surf.
Encounter Bay with the sun coming up.

Sean caught some wave out the front of the beach house so I had a leisurely stroll down onto the beach to take these.

Pinwheel quilt

I wanted to make a pinwheel quilt but I hate those measurement - cut 48 - 3 7/8" squares (I hate 7/8ths). For some reason measurements like that remind me of my dear dad being up the shed with him and him talking about drill bits. I digress, my very knowledgeable friend Lorraine introduced me to this amazing ruler. You just cut a strip of fabric then lay the contrasting materials right sides facing and then cut your triangles by flipping the ruler. Then sew them together.
It is super fast and very easy.

I had my pinwheels cut out and put together, quilted and binding sewn on in no time .

Pin wheel quilt

The ruler is also very economical and I got an extra pinwheel per strip, so I had a pinwheel in each colour left over, so I was able to piece the back.

Pieced back

No quilt is complete without a label.

Every quilt needs a label

I now have a star quilt I want to make so I can use the ruler to make that.
I'm fairly sure Lorraine does a class on how to use these rulers if you are interested.

High Tea

Yesterday Tony and I and our good friends Denby and Graeme had High Tea at Glenelg. I received a voucher for my birthday last year. The wonderful thing about High Tea at Glenelg is it is in the revolving restaurant 12 stories up. We were there for about 1 hour and 40 minutes and in that time we did a full revolution. The food was good and the views brilliant.
