My World Tuesday # 6

Thankfully my world has not been ravaged by the horrific bushfires that have caused so much death and destruction in Victoria and the horrendous floods in Queensland. My thoughts go out to those who have loss everything and more so to those who have lost a loved one.

Quite often when I drive to work I see this fellow or his friends waddling along the side of the road picking at the grass. I thought I would go for a walk on Sunday morning and see if I could find them. Here he is walking along the top of the sails at the Adelaide Oval.

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Then he was off.

Shortly after his mate flew into a tree nearby.

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Then he was off.
They are such noisy birds, squawking as they fly over head..

If you want to see what others are doing in their world head over here.

Good to see some natural OZ beauty after having seen so much devastation on the news caused by the floods and the bush fires.

Thinking of you all!

Lovely birds, even considering the noise. Most of the ones I see here are house pets and have the flight feathers clipped, so it is good to see one flying freely!

Stay safe.

Wow, beautiful. It must be great to live where you see birds like this flying freely.

They look like beautiful birds to me...but then, I don't have them everywhere squawking as you do. '-)

This has inspired me to get to know the geography of Australia a little better than my current knowledge.

My MIL has a pair that nest every year on the reserve opposite the house. They sit on a couple of conifers in her front yard and strip the leaves. They usually have 3 or 4 babies a year so there are plenty of them around year round. They use to scare the kids when they were little though flying low over the back yard and letting out their loud screech.

I have a Muluccan cockatoo and do know how loud that screech can be. However, I love this beautiful bird. She was an ignored bird before I got her and she is fearful of being held: loves to be scratched. I can't turn her free but would if that would be best for her. Thanks for your pictures.

What pristine birds, and so unusual for most of us, I'm sure, to see them not in a cage. Absolutely magnificent photos!

I'm glad to hear you are OK. The photos of the bird are incredible. I heard my bird neighbors for the first time the other day. They are starting to return from their winter migration.

They are very noisy but its nice to see them flying in the wild, so snowy white and clean, nice to hear the caged ones talk too.
Good photos.
