Last year on the 1st of May I decided to cut sugar out of my diet. I bought and read 2 of David Gillespie's books.
The Sweet Poison Quit Plan | David Gillespie
The Sweet Poison Quit Plan Cookbook | David Gillespie
I have lost weigh before and very quickly put it back on. In the past I would have eaten myself fat with all the upheavals of Tony's surgery and Chemo but I have remained on track.
I have lost 18 kilos and this happened quite quickly I have been the same weigh for about 6 months without putting on a kilo.
The most amazing thing about giving up sugar is ........... one sugar is put into every thing the other is I actually feel full.
In the past if I ate too much I never felt full now I feel uncomfortably full if I eat too much.
I have lost all this weight eating butter, steak, avocado, nuts, yummy full cream milk all the things you give up on other diets.
Basically it is going back to our grandmothers days and making everything let me tell you home made mayo and salad dressings are far more delicious that bought one.
All this leads me to my recent purchase
I bet you wouldn't have guessed it would be a wet suit, now that I am 18 kilos lighter I am more active I have always walked but now I swim.
I swim with some friends across Horse Bay
We walk around the bay and swim back across if you look in this photo we swim back to the white building.
That is me getting in I could not swim now without a wet suit some of the other women swim without a wettie. I think this is madness.
This was Mother's Day morning what wonderful weather we have had.
That is me with the yellow arms and red cap.
There we go across the bay
Back in March there was a Masters swim the following photos are of that.
I didn't swim in this ......they swim a long way.
Some random snaps
Before Australia Day someone claims this little island in the bay.
Another view of the bay from the other side.
Sunset from the balcony
Sunset from my kitchen window
A few weeks back we had a lunar eclipse
Not sure how I did this with the reflection in the back ground.
Tony had round number 10 on Monday so we can see a light at the end of the tunnel 2 more to go. It is a horrible journey and we can not wait for it to be behind us.

Lovely to hear from you Leanne, glad all is going well with Tony, great shots as usual. xxx
INCREDIBLE STORY!! So inspirational. Xxxx
Well done! I gave up sugar late last year and I credit it for the weight I have lost - not sure how much, but I can fit into things I haven't worn for years! I think the surgery I had at the beginning of the year also had something to do with the weight loss - I have also given up bread, all grains and nuts (some of those things I am now unable to eat without repercussions!) I can't swim, and have a morbid fear of deep water (and what could be in it!) so won't be adding swimming to my exercise regime, but I do walk way more than I used to...because it feels so much better than it used to! Good news that the chemo is almost done.....have been thinking of you both xx
Congratulations, what a great achivement. I have been going to a lifestyle course and it really opened my as to the whole sugar/carbs and sugar turning into carbs world. I have lost 8 kilo's and feeling much better and hope to loose that amount again. Now when I taste something sweet it feels extra sweet (disgusting lol) to what it used to taste before. Hopefully this will keep the weight off. Although maybe if I was really disciplined I would give up the glass of wine a night. Though I think that I would need more than a wetsuit to swim in the ocean this time of year!!! Good news that Tony is going well.
Glad to hear that there is light at the end of your horrid tunnel. ...and I find it hard to believe you even had that much weight to begin with..
Sugar really is poisonous the way we eat it now...I am so happy for you!! Fantasticly cute wet suit that you got!I am praying for your Tony.
This sounds very motivating! I think I will have to have a look at the 'plan'!
And what beautiful pictures of the place you live!
To swim across the bay once is epic in my book, let alone regularly, congratulations! Glad you got a wet suit...you could now take up surfing with the boys?
I am going to borrow the no sugar book from the library, I need to amend my diet and my sweet tooth is the root of all my problems!
Glad Tony is nearly finished with the chemo, hope the dietitian helped also. Its a awful journey, but the end result is worth it, you both have so much living to do, hope you can start planning something to look forward to like a special holiday to celebrate.
That photo of the moon is awesome!
You are amazing! I hope all goes well with your hubby's treatment and the end is near with a positive outcome.
Sugar. My biggest problem right now.
So nice to read about you .... You have done a lot for yourself and are now seeing the fruits of your hard work!!
Am doing the same as you... Trying to get my old life back... Slow but getting there.
Happy for the both of you... Keep on.. Hugs!!
Just found your blog, and I've really enjoyed catching a glimpse of your life there on the other side of the world.
I think I am going to have to investigate this book. Well done for persevering through a very difficult time when most people would have given up. Good luck with the last two rounds. You are in my thoughts with much love.
I've recently become more aware of how sugar is in everything. I think the most depressing thing was to find out that my favorite SOUP contains so much sugar. Who would have thought soup would have sugar? They add it to absolutely everything now. I wish I had more time to cook. Congratulations on your weight loss. That is a major accomplishment!
Take care,

OMG! There will be nothing left of you!18kg lost from where I wonder. Good on you Leanne. You are an inspiration and well done on that wet suit purchase, You'll need it even more in a month or so. Izzy and i looked out for you at the Paws walk:)
So glad you are nearly at the end of Tony's treatment-thank goodness. Take care xx
Oh wow, Leanne - you've done incredibly well losing all that weight, especially with the stress of Tony's illness.
I'm completely in awe of you doing all that swimming too! I should think that and the healthy eating have given you so much strength to cope at a very difficult time.
You've inspired me! I'm off to check out those books.
xx
Hi Leanne - Wow - swimming in the sea! Thinking of you - can't believe you lost 18 kilo. Sugar is the killer.
