Another morning walk

Alison recently posted about a visitor to her backyard. I was totally amazed as I didn't have any idea that there were hedgehogs in New Zealand. She asked had anyone else been treated to a glimpse of nature....... these pelicans aren't in my back yard but it takes me about a minute to walk to the lake so they are pretty close.
At certain times of the year when the fish are plentiful there is a group of pelicans that seem to hunt together I took these photos about a month ago on my morning walk.

Morning walk 12/4/2008

They paddle along in the water and when they see some fish they seem to walk along the top of the water then dive their heads in under the water.

They are quite successful this one is just about to swallow a fish.

Yes! Great photos. I love it when we see pelicans flying high in the sky in summer. They are so distictive you know straight away that they couldn't be anything other than pelicans.

Wow, thanks for sharing these pictures. I had no idea what a "real" pelican looked like or how it acted outside of a zoo. Their beaks are huge.

hehe wouldn't be much of a date I'm afraid....apart from the fact he's desexed( shhhh dont tell him he doesn't know) he's the most anti-social dog to others. We used to take him to doggy park but the stress was too much,he ignores small dogs but I was forever detatching him from rotties & huskies!!! I never felt like a bad mum with my kids in social situations (well maybe once when Kayla bit another child!) but with him!!! he has to have his nails cut under sedation!!
Claire
ps but I still love him:)
pps send me a pic of your girls you never know? hehe
